Trezzit in Claude and ChatGPT
Connect Trezzit to an AI assistant to track what you actually spent, across personal and shared expenses and down to each item. Ask it to add an expense, split a receipt, check who owes what, or total last month's spending. It works with your own Trezzit account, only after you allow it, and it never moves money.

What you can do #
- Add expenses by talking. Save a personal expense, or split a group bill equally, by percentage, by custom amounts, or item by item from a receipt.
- Check balances. Who owes whom, in each group and overall.
- See what you actually spent. Your personal expenses plus your share of every shared bill, searchable down to item names and totalled by category or month. Export a group's history as a table.
- Match your bank statement. List what you paid and what was settled, so the AI can match it line by line.
- Record a settle-up. Note that you paid someone back outside Trezzit.
- Manage recurring bills. Rent, subscriptions and utilities: add this month's, skip one, change or end the series.
Example prompts #
- "Add a $23.40 pharmacy run to my personal expenses."
- "Add a $84.20 dinner to Thursday Dinner Club, I paid, split equally between everyone."
- "Who owes me money in Apartment 3B, and how much?"
- "How much did I actually spend on groceries last month, personal and shared?"
- "Find every coffee I bought this year and show what each one cost me."
- "List what I paid this month so I can match my bank statement."
- "I paid Priya back $45 for the electric bill. Record it."
- "Add this month's internet bill to the apartment, same as last time."
The assistant shows you what it is about to save. Writes can also be previewed first: ask it to "draft" a bill before saving.
Connect in Claude #
- In Claude, open Settings → Connectors.
- Find Trezzit in the directory and select Connect. Or choose Add custom connector, name it Trezzit and paste the server URL above.
- Sign in to Trezzit if asked, check what Claude is asking for, and select Allow access.
- In a chat, turn Trezzit on from the tools menu and ask away.
Claude usually asks before running an action that changes data, unless you tell it to always allow that action.
Connect in ChatGPT #
- In ChatGPT, open the apps directory and search for Trezzit. Until Trezzit is listed there, add it in developer mode with the server URL above.
- Select Connect, sign in to Trezzit, and select Allow access.
- Mention Trezzit in a chat, or pick it from the tools menu, and ask your question.
Other AI apps #
Any app that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in can connect with the server URL. In Claude Code, for example:
claude mcp add --transport http trezzit https://api.trezzit.com/api/mcp
What the AI can see and do #
When you connect, Trezzit shows you exactly what the app is asking for. You can say no.
| Permission | What it allows |
|---|---|
| View your expenses | Your personal and group expenses with their items and receipts, and your groups' member names: what you can already see in Trezzit. |
| See who owes whom | Balances across your groups. |
| Create and edit expenses | Add expenses and settle-ups, manage recurring bills, and delete a bill it added in the last 30 minutes. Group members are notified as usual. |
| View your basic profile | Your name and email. |
The AI only ever sees your own data: the same bills and people you see in the app. Other members' email addresses are never shared with it.
Trezzit never moves money #
Trezzit is a record of your personal and shared spending. It has no access to bank accounts or cards, and no tool sends, requests or holds money. "Record settlement" writes down that you paid someone back by cash, bank transfer or a payment app; the payment itself happens outside Trezzit.
Good to know #
- Deleting. The AI can delete only a bill it added in the last 30 minutes, and only before anyone else recorded a payment on it. Everything else is deleted in the app.
- Split links are public. "Create public split link" makes a web page anyone with the link can open, for people who aren't on Trezzit. It can't be revoked from the AI app.
- Receipts. Uploading a receipt photo through the AI needs an assistant that can run code with internet access. Otherwise, scan the receipt in the Trezzit app.
- Limits. Write actions are rate limited. If the AI hits the limit, it's told when it can try again.
- Currencies. Amounts are in each group's currency. Currencies without cents (such as JPY) are added in the app.
Privacy and the action log #
Trezzit never sees your conversation with the AI, only the requests it sends to Trezzit. For each one we keep a short record: which action ran, when, whether it worked, and which bill or group it touched. We don't keep the words in the request. You can see this log, and clear it, in Profile → Connected AI apps. What the AI app does with the data it receives is covered by that app's own privacy policy. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Disconnect #
- In Trezzit: Profile → Connected AI apps, then Disconnect. The app loses access right away.
- In the AI app: remove or disconnect Trezzit in its connector settings.
- Resetting your password or deleting your Trezzit account disconnects every AI app.
Troubleshooting #
"Insufficient scope" when adding a bill. The app was allowed to view only. Disconnect it and connect again, allowing "Create and edit expenses".
The AI says it isn't connected, or sign-in loops. Disconnect Trezzit in the AI app and connect again. Make sure you sign in to the same Trezzit account you use in the app.
"AI features are off" when scanning a receipt. Reading receipts uses AI, which you turn on yourself. In the Trezzit app, open Profile → Privacy & data, turn AI features on, and try again.
It picked the wrong person or group. Ask it to use the full name or the group's name, or to list your groups first.
Something else? Email support@trezzit.com with the AI app's name and what you asked.
